Another incident that I can recall is a woman who was riding her endurance horse had came off her horse; they were approximately 3-5 miles away from the stable where she boarded her horse. The horse took off and ran another approximately 3 miles further away. The horse was located by a homeowner and they tied it to a tree for several day, because they were not horse people, they apparently did not know what to do with it.
The woman contacted the police department to file a report of her lost horse and the local paper to put a picture and article in it, which they did for her.
Approximately a few days later another lady approximately 20 miles from the original incident saw her next door neighbor unloading a horse that still had it’s saddle on and other tack still on. She remembered the picture in the newspaper and recognized the horse and tack, so she called the sheriff’s department. It took another day or so for them to question the person and finally return the horse to it’s rightful owner.
How easy would it have been to have a Fetlock ID Band or even an ID Collar on the horse ? The original person who tied up the horse could have then called the owner to immediately pick up her horse.
Being that this happened several years ago, I may have forgotten some of the details, but I remember how upset I was about this incident.
