Just take a look at social media pages for your local neighborhood, police department, or fire department. Almost every week there’s a post that begins with, “Is anyone missing their horse?”
If you own horses, you already know the truth—most herds have at least one escape artist. Mine was a little 14-hand mustang who loved to play with locks, clips, and gate latches. More than once, he managed to loosen the gate and—yeehaw—the “three amigos” were out running, grazing, and enjoying life beyond the corral.
Even when your property is fully fenced and horses can’t reach roadways or leave the land, getting them back where they belong can still be a challenge.
I’ll never forget an experience from 2018 when we were traveling and attending an horse expos around the country. A couple stopped by our booth, and as I showed them our product line and explained when and why you might need each item, the husband began to walk away. As he turned, he casually said, “We don’t really have any need for these things. Let’s go.”
Before he could take another step, his wife grabbed his arm, planted her hands on her hips, and said, “Are you kidding me? Don’t you remember last month when the herd ran off? We tracked them down the road, down a dirt lane, across a field, and finally found them four miles away in someone’s front yard!”
That was all it took. They purchased several Fetlock ID Bands for their herd right then and there.
And that’s just one story. We’ve heard countless others from customers. Horses found wandering along roads, grazing in someone’s beautifully manicured yard, following an irrigation ditch for miles, or even ending up near a lake five miles away. It happens—often when you least expect it. And sometimes when you’re not even home: at work, out shopping, on vacation, or away on a cruise.
So, I have to ask: What’s stopping you from getting visible ID for your horses?
Horses are more than an investment. They’re our “fur kids,” our rodeo partners, our show champions, and sometimes even our emotional support animals.
Let us help you find the identification solution that works best for your situation.
Show horses and ponies:
Use an Equine ID Collar at shows when horses are tied to trailers or stalled. If there’s an emergency—such as a loose horse situation, an accident, or even a blown tire requiring horses to be unloaded—identification is immediately visible.
EquestriSafe Product: Equine Multi-purpose ID Collar or Reflective collars work well here.
Rodeo and endurance events:
Temporary corrals and electric braid setups can lead to loose horses. The chaos that follows can be dangerous, sometimes even fatal.
EquestriSafe Product: Equine Multi-purpose ID collar or Reflective collars help ensure horses can be quickly identified and returned.
Trail riders and fox hunters:
Unplanned dismounts and runaway horses can send them off into the unknown. When someone finds them, they often have no idea who the horse belongs to.
EquestriSafe Product: Fetlock ID Bands are ideal for these situations.
Veterinary clinics and hospitals:
Identification can include information about illness or injury, breeding dates, medications, allergies, or feeding instructions.
EquestriSafe Product: Equine ID collar – Single sleeve– or double-sleeve work well for this purpose.
Emergencies and evacuations:
In barn fires or large-scale evacuations, clear identification can help veterinarians and responders quickly determine ownership and treatment priority.
EquestriSafe Product(s): Equine ID collars – Embroidered or any of Equine ID collars can display owner information immediately—no searching through files or paperwork.
Fetlock ID Bands are also helpful if horses are evacuated while you’re away from home.
You can even keep evacuation halters and Equine ID collars clearly labeled and readily accessible so emergency personnel can locate them quickly if needed.
We’d love to hear your stories and ideas so we can share them with others in the horse community. Feel free to email them to us or post them in the comments below.
