Equine Airway Barn Kits

The Vet Med Trail Packs – Equine Airway Kits are designed as emergency tools for owners whose horse(s) may encounter respiratory distress situations while out on the trail, at the barn, or during travel. These kits are especially valuable in environments where horses are exposed to allergens, insects, or other hazards that can compromise their ability to breathe.

What’s in the Equine Airway Kit?
The kit typically includes:
Specialized airway tubes: Unlike garden hoses, these are designed to be firm enough to resist collapse from swelling, yet gentle enough not to damage sensitive nasal tissues.
Instructions for use: Clear guidance on how to insert the tubes safely in emergency situations.
Compact packaging: Easy to carry in a saddlebag or trailer for quick access.

Why It Matters
Horses are obligate nasal breathers—they cannot breathe through their mouths like humans. If their nasal passages swell shut due to:

Allergic reactions

* Insect stings (e.g., bees or wasps)
* Snake bites
* Environmental irritants
…they risk suffocation. The airway kit provides a temporary solution to keep airflow open until veterinary care is available.

Pro Tip
Don’t rely on makeshift solutions like garden hoses. If the hose collapses under pressure or contains wire reinforcement, it can worsen the injury. These kits are built specifically for equine anatomy and emergency use.

Sizes available:
Extra Small: Foals, Small Miniature horses – Tested on 150# equine
Small: Ponies, Larger miniature horses 300# and above – tested on a 275# equine
Medium: most ponies and small horses (i.e.: Arabians, Quarter ponies, etc.)
Large: Average pleasure horse – tested on a 1000# equine (i.e.: QH, Thoroughbred, Morgan, etc.)
Extra Large: Draft horse, Draft X, Large Warmblood or similar type horses

Each kit includes:
Product instructions
3 sets of – 2 Airway tubes (one for each nostril)
3 x 3 1/2 oz lubricant packets

Choose the best size combination for your barn/stable needs.

(Note: if unsure, go with the smaller size, it is better to be able to provide some air rather than no air at all to your horse. If the tube is too large you will not be able to help your horse in the event of this type of emergency.)
The tubes only need to pass into the area of the nasal passage that is surrounded by bone.
